The Google Search Relations team, made up of John Mueller, Gary Illyes, and Martin Splitt, dove into a thought-provoking discussion on the Impact of Web3 on SEO in the most recent episode of the Search Off the Record podcast.

While noting that Web3 is still in its early stages, the team offered insights and discussed how this technology may impact SEO practices, search engine rankings, and website visibility..


Web3 is usually referred to as a collection of open-source and interconnected decentralized apps that are powered by blockchain computing architecture. It seeks to improve data privacy, enable peer-to-peer connections, and provide users more control over their online experiences than the standard web does.

Without sharing too many details, Google’s team mentioned potential problems that Web3 domains might encounter. Such addresses are similar to the top-level domains, but still lack the well-known structure of traditional domains. This issue might limit Google’s crawlers in their attempt to crawl and index content from these traditional domains.

As for the potential applications of Web3, they mostly focused on decentralized applications, blockchain-based domains and digital identity and privacy. 

Web3 enables the creation of dApps, which run on peer-to-peer networks, often using blockchain technology. Decentralized naming systems are used by blockchain-based domains to provide consumers ownership and control over their domain names without the need for centralized domain registrars. Additionally, Web3 enables individuals to own and manage their personal data by utilizing decentralized identification solutions and cryptographic concepts.

Safari 17 Introduces New Powerful Features

At the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced Safari 17 and its new features. Safari 17 will now include JPEG XL and  improved “font-size-adjust”, which will enhance user experience and page loading times.

JPEG XL, a new photo format which creates balance between photo quality and file size, will now allow the recompression of the existing JPEG files without losing any data and reducing the size by up to 60%. As the page loading speed is one of the crucial ranking factors, this will be a significant step for the publishers. Now, they will be able to reduce their load time by drastically reducing the file size. Furthermore, users will be able to view images before the entire file is downloaded, which will lead to the improved user experience on slower connections.

Apart from JPEG XL, Safari 17 also made enhancements on “font-size-adjust”, which is a CSS property that makes sure that the visual size of various fonts remains consistent across all conceivable combinations of fallback fonts.The from-font value enables developers to take the size metric from the primary font and apply it to all fonts, which can help websites maintain a unified visual style that is essential for the user experience.The two-value syntax, on the other hand, offers more latitude in modifying various font metrics, providing a wider range of languages and design options.

OpenAI Powered Content Generator Integrates Directly Into the WordPress Editor

Publishers can now generate content while using the WordPress publishing workflow thanks to a new WordPress plugin from Jetpack that incorporates OpenAI content production straight into the WordPress editor.

From the beginning of this year, WordPress has been testing a writing assistance powered by OpenAI. Although OpenAI wasn’t mentioned in the initial announcement, Automattic (software development company) has confirmed that this plugin does in fact use OpenAI.

The plugin creates a chat-like interface, or conversational user interface, within the WordPress editing block where the AI assistant may be accessed.

That implies that you essentially just type in what you want in a conversational style. The process of expressing your needs to the AI is known as crafting a “prompt.” After you get a response, if you feel anything is missing just ask the AI assistant to rewrite it by editing or adding the missing details.

This AI assistant also contains:

  • various adaptive writing tones, 
  • title and summary generation, 
  • content translation, 
  • spelling and grammar correction.

And as for costs, every WordPress CMS user has 20 free requests and afterward the cost is $10 per month.

Google Develops Bard’s Logical and Reasoning Skills

The Product Lead for Bard, Krawczyk and the Vice President of Engineering for Bard, Subramanya have made an announcement in the blog that Bard is receiving a significant update that will improve its logical and reasoning capabilities.

With these updates, Bard should be better equipped to handle string manipulation challenges, solve coding problems, and handle mathematical problems.

To accomplish this, the developers used “implicit code execution”. With the help of this new technique, Bard can recognize computational prompts and execute code in the background, improving its ability to handle challenging jobs.

The Google team stated in the statement that as a result, “it can respond more accurately to mathematical tasks, coding questions, and string manipulation prompts.”

With the help of the new method, Bard may develop and run code that will improve its deductive and algebraic skills. This strategy draws its inspiration from the division between “System 1” and “System 2” thinking, a well-researched split in human intellect that is prominently discussed in Daniel Kahneman’s book “Thinking, Fast and Slow.”

  • System 1: fast, simple, and effortless, just like a jazz musician improvising in the moment.
  • System 2: similar to learning to play an instrument or doing long division since it is intentional, slow, and laborious.

Large Language Models (LLMs), like Bard, have usually operated under System 1, producing text quickly but without deep thought. 

On the other hand traditional computation aligns more with System 2, being rigid and formulaic but yet being capable of delivering spectacular results when used appropriately.

With the latest update, Bard is now using the capabilities of both LLMs and traditional code.
